Carbon Footprint

There have been many sites that let you calculate an approximate carbon foot print based on the details that you give them. Here is one I found:

www.earthlab.com

It also has loads of more information, latest news, and other interesting stuff.

Earth Hour

This was referred to by Sreevatsa Lakshmanan. Here is what he had to say:

A wonderful promotion video that I loved.

Feeding the Poor

Feeding the Poor

I came across CNN IBN's "Real Heros" and a quite curious to see what featured in their program as I heard that they honor the unsung heros of India.

Here is one of the videos of a person from Madurai who has sacrificed his 5 star career to feed the poor and the under cared.

It takes great will power and determination to throw away ones career for social service. I wish some of us can bring smiles in the lives of the needy.

Global Impact

Global Impact

A short Documentary from National Geographic and United Nations.

If you did not find time to read through some of the other mails in this "Think About This" series that I am posting, then, this video could be the one that might prompt you to think about climate change issue.

An Inconvenient Truth

An Inconvenient Truth

I saw this movie "An Inconvenient Truth" by Al Gore, the former Vice-president of US, which gives scientific predictions and projections on what Global Warming has done and can do. I had heard of this movie and was on the hunt for quite a time.

You SHOULD grab the movie and watch it. For the people in the US I guess you should find this easily in any of your public libraries near by. In fact, I myself picked the DVD from Los Angeles Public Library to watch it.

If you wanted some motivation why you have to watch this - this movie won the Oscar (2007) for the best documentary, and Al Gore shared the Nobel Peace price (2007) with IPCC (UN Organization) for the efforts on climate change.

Massive ice shelf on verge of breakup

Massive ice shelf on verge of breakup

Quote:

'Some 220 square miles of ice has collapsed in Antarctica and an ice shelf about seven times the size of Manhattan is "hanging by a thread," the British Antarctic Survey said Tuesday, blaming global warming.'

Global Warming Unstoppable for 100 Years

Global Warming Unstoppable for 100 Years

Key quotes from the link

"..even if no more greenhouse gases are added to the atmosphere, globally averaged air surface temperatures will rise about 1 degree Fahrenheit (0.5 degree Celsius) and global sea levels will rise at least 4.3 inches.."

"..global warming is a multigenerational problem: The choices we make now set the stage for what our grandchildren will be forced to deal with-a little warming and sea level rise, or a lot."

Time is India News

Why this Blog page?

I started off with this "Think About This" theme after I realized the effects of climate change, environmental disasters, pollution - air, water, land, melting of ice shelves, and much more. To put it short we are in a generation where we have to fight this monster - Global Warming or what some people call - The Climate Crisis.

There are large groups, organizations, and many as individuals who are taking action to fight Global Warming. This is my portion of the whole pie in fighting and promoting as many people as I can to do as little or as much as they can to help sustain the very existence of our species on this wonderful planet.

This blog site is dedicated to archive all the e-mails that were sent as part of my theme to bring more and more people into this, and make people more aware of the crisis that we are in.

Though "Think About This" was started with Global Warming as its crux, issues of social welfare are also to be largely thought of. In a developing country like India, there are more people than what the existing social workers are able to serve and reach. Posts on such issues are largely welcome to.

I would be more than happy if you are willing to be a part of this and wish to contribute in any form towards a good cause. Please email me at my GoogleMail - cpjagan, so that I can add you as one of the blog authors.
